The School of The Spirit

A discipleship journey designed to help you grow in Christ, learn to walk with the Holy Spirit, and step into the purposes of God for your life.

About SOTS

Kalgoorlie carries a rich history of prophetic promise waiting to be fulfilled. We believe people do too. What if God’s plan to see His promises outworked on the earth includes you, and what if that journey begins right here in the Goldfields?

Our city is named after the Karlkurla, the silky pear plant that grows in this region. This plant paints a powerful prophetic picture of God’s call on the people of this place. The silky pear grows on a slender vine and produces a large green pod filled with tightly packed seeds. When the fruit matures, the pod splits open and releases hundreds of tiny seeds that are carried far and wide by the wind.

In many ways, Kalgoorlie is an Antioch-style city. It is a place where sons and daughters of God are formed and prepared, much like the seeds of the silky pear. As they mature, they are carried by the winds of the Spirit to places near and far, bringing the life and message of the Kingdom of God.

School of the Spirit exists to help people grow into that calling. It is designed for those who want to mature in Christ, be equipped for life and ministry, and take their place in seeing God’s Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.

The Format

School of the Spirit is made up of three modules, each containing 12 weeks of content delivered over a 14-week period. The modules are designed to be completed consecutively across one calendar year, though in some cases students may complete them over a longer timeframe if needed.

The school includes a mix of in-person teaching, video learning, and small group discipleship, creating space not only to learn but to immediately apply what is being taught.

Teaching sessions are led by local leaders including Peter & Carolyn Vanderwal, as well as visiting ministers from around Australia and beyond. These teachers carry apostolic, prophetic, pastoral, evangelistic, and teaching gifts and are passionate about equipping others.

Students will also receive curated video content from Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, delivered through a personal online learning dashboard.

A key part of the school is small group discipleship, where students meet with mentors to process what they are learning and explore practical ways to live it out in their personal lives, families, workplaces, and church communities.

Weekly Timetable

School of the Spirit is designed to work alongside normal life, including work and family commitments. It is not a full-time school, but it does require a meaningful commitment from students.

Each module includes:

  • 2 video sessions per week to watch in your own time via the Bethel online platform

  • 1 weekly evening gathering for face-to-face teaching

  • 3 Saturday teaching sessions during the module

  • A fortnightly small group discipleship session

  • 1 book per module to read or listen to as an audiobook

Students are encouraged and supported to apply what they are learning week by week in everyday life, including through serving in their local church and participating in mission opportunities throughout the year.

Modules

Each module builds on the one before it, helping you grow step by step in your identity in Christ, your relationship with the Holy Spirit, and your ability to live out God’s Kingdom in everyday life.

Module One - Sonship

The blue print of heaven is family! We begin our journey by exploring God’s big picture plan for His creation, looking with fresh eyes at salvation through the lens of grace and the new creation. We dive deep into what it means to live as a son or daughter of God, fully experiencing the freedom that comes with our new identity in Christ. Topics include salvation, new creation, grace vs law, orphan vs son, forgiveness, repentance, healing and deliverance.

Module Two - Priesthood

God is building for himself a dwelling place on the earth and it is in the heart of men! As our journey continues, we turn our focus to the priesthood of all believers, beginning with our ministry to God. Together we discover the Holy Spirit’s activity in our lives and we learn to value and host His presence in our midst. Our ministry to God flows into ministry to people. Both are anchored in love and empowered by the Spirit. Topics include Holy Spirit, Word of God, worship, hearing God, prayer and spiritual gifts.

Jesus taught us to pray that His Kingdom would come and His will would be done, that earth would become like heaven. This is the dream of God and it is a prayer He wants to answer! Like Jesus, our message is simple: The Kingdom of Heaven is near! In this final module we discover what it means to operate in our kingly anointing, governing our own lives and the areas in which we have influence, according to the blueprints of the heaven. Topics include the Kingdom of God, faith, governance, servanthood, stewardship, intercession and personal destiny.

Module Three - Kingship

Frequently asked questions

Do I have time for this?

Here’s the honest answer: maybe.

This is a school, and it requires commitment. Minimum attendance is needed if you want to graduate, which means it may not be the right season for everyone. That’s why we’re hosting info sessions — to help you discern if this is a good fit right now.

At the same time, SOTS is structured with work and family commitments in mind.

What if I'm not very academic?

If you've thought...“I’m not really academic — will I still be able to do School of the Spirit?” The answer is a big, reassuring YES.

There are no exams, essays, or tests. SOTS is about growth, not grades. You’ll learn through video teachings, group discussions, mentoring, and life application. If you’re hungry to grow, you’ll fit right in.

Is this just for those in full time ministry?

Absolutely not. SOTS is for every believer who wants to grow in walking with God...teachers, tradies, parents, business owners, students...anyone who wants to bring heaven’s influence into everyday life.

We believe ministry starts right where you are. At home. At work. In your community. Because the Kingdom doesn’t wait for a pulpit, it flows through people.

What if I can't afford it?

We get it — financially committing to something new can feel like a stretch! Here’s the good news: School of the Spirit is intentionally affordable. Subsidies are available for concession card holders and payment plans are possible on request.

The full cost is $400 per module — that covers all teaching, Bethel video content, and ministry sessions with visiting speakers. If this is something God is stirring in you, don’t let finances be the thing that holds you back.
